McCloskey attends BEDC training

Texarkana, AR-TX, March 9, 2015— Municipal officials, chamber of commerce staff and economic development representatives from across the state of Texas recently attended the Texas Economic Development Council’s BASIC Economic Development course held in San Antonio, TX which focused on the theory and practice of economic development.

This week-long, 26-hour course, accredited by the International Economic Development Council, offered training in the basic concepts, methods and strategies of economic, industrial, business and community development. TexAmericas Center employee, Devon McCloskey, attended the training session and networked with over 60 peers and colleagues.

“This course was a wonderful opportunity for me to take a bigger step into the field of Economic Development. I enjoyed networking and learning from my peers, and learned about tools that will be beneficial to the TexAmericas Center’s strategic mission,”

said McCloskey.

The course focused on a variety of topics including: Strategic Planning, Business Retention and Expansion, Entrepreneurship Development, Sustainable Development, Planning for Community Development, as well as Public Financing Tools. Attendees got a chance to work on real life economic development challenges.

“The information learned by Ms. McCloskey can be adapted to the economic development needs for the entire Texarkana region as well as help to coordinate business retention expansion, small business development, industry attraction and capacity growth planning,”

said Scott Norton, Executive Director/CEO of TexAmericas Center.

About TexAmericas Center:
Located in the Texarkana metropolitan area, TexAmericas Center owns and operates one of the largest mixed use industrial parks in the United States. With more than 2,000 development ready acres of land and about 1.5 million square feet of commercial and industrial product, TexAmericas Center services the four states (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas) markets. TexAmericas Center has the operating capabilities of a municipality but functions more like a traditional real estate development company. In addition to controlling our own zoning and permitting processes and sustaining the life cycle of public infrastructure on the complex, TAC has the capability to lease, build to suite, or facilitate Greenfield owner-constructed projects in a timely and efficient manner. At TAC, we stream line leasing and manage government development processes all through a single point of contact. Our customers benefit from faster market entry by resolving zoning, permitting, inspection, and state and local incentive programs through a single point of contact at TexAmericas Center. Tenants of TexAmericas Center tend to be private business owners and corporations seeking flexible and cost effective space solutions.
